Kitchen Bar Stools

Kitchen bar stools are not often thought of when considering updating or upgrading a kitchen interior design plan. Depending on the decorating style used in the kitchen or breakfast nook, bar stools can make a statement and add visual impact to any home. Much careful thought should be put into the type of materials and design, or lack of design, that is presented by the legs and back of the bar stools. Generally, the first part of the bar stool that is seen when entering the kitchen or eating area is the back.

All bar stools generally provide a seat that is 9-14 inches below the bottom of the counter or table where they are placed. When shopping for a bar stool, the measurement from the floor to the bottom of the counter or table top should be consulted for reference. Care should be taken to compensate for the addition of a seat cushion or decorative pillow to the seat of the bar stool.

Kitchen bar stools can be made out of many different materials and can be purchased to match the kitchen colors or even contrast with the décor, making a strong visual statement with the room. Wood or metal, even chrome or wrought iron can be chosen in hundreds of patterns to exactly match the intended design of the kitchen or eating area.

Wooden bar stools can be smooth, textured, carved, stained or painted to match the kind of décor located in a country or traditionally themed kitchen. Metal bar stools can be finished with paint or lacquer over unpainted metal for an industrial look in a modern kitchen. Chrome is an option when matching bar stools with glass table tops or dark stone countertops. Black wrought iron bar stools can be paired with a Western or Southwestern themed kitchen.

In additional to materials choice in bar stools, the type of backs can make a difference in decorating choices. Wooden bar stools can be smooth or carved with unlimited different designs. Metal bar stools are generally fabricated using heat and tools to bend and weld the metal to make the legs, back and seat of the bar stool. Metal lends itself to thousands of designs that can be chosen to compliment kitchen and dining room décor.

When selected a kitchen bar stool, comfort should absolutely be a consideration, even before selecting the material for the bar stool. Generally, wooden bar stools have either flat or contoured seats to allow comfortable seating. In the case of a flat wooden seat, comfort can be improved with the use of a seat cushion, in colors that compliment those already in the kitchen. In the case of metal, chrome or wrought iron bar stools, it is usually necessary to consider a seat cushion to make the metal seat a comfortable place to sit for along period of time.

With the hundreds of material and design options, there are many ways to include kitchen barstools in an interior layout. Even without a center island or a Bistro style table in the kitchen, barstools can be a decorative way to display plants or candle groupings. Placed against an empty wall, in different heights and styles, they can be used as an interesting conversation piece or decorative display. With versatility and variety available for all tastes, kitchen bar stools are an excellent accent to any kitchen interior design plan.
